The most competitive World Cup 2018 qualifying tournament is set to continue tomorrow (24/3/2016). Those fixtures will be played the upcoming days:

CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying: game 5
CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying: game 5
CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying: game 6

And the current standings with Ecuador as surprising leaders with the full 12 out of 12 points:

Here’s two tables with some interesting stats. Especially pay attention to Uruguay’s weird stats. They have no possession, don’t shoot too often but only from close range:

Based on the expected goals model presented here I created xG maps for the games that have been played. If you are not interested in reading that blog, in short in says: each shot is assigned a value from 0,00 to 1,00 indicating the probability of that shot converting into goal. This is based on the type of shot (distance, angle, type of assist, and more) and situation in the game. It gives a different (better!) view on game and tournament performance.
