Premier League round 11 preview

With Arsenal and Manchester City leading the pack after 10 rounds, here’s the preview of game day 10 in numbers:

Chelsea – Liverpool

Chelsea is in big trouble. In the opening 10 rounds of this Premier League season they have already lost more games (5) than in the entire 2014/15 league (3). They have 15 points less then last year at this point of the league and they record a negative goal difference after 10 games for the first time in Premier League history:

Tomorrow they face another troubled side: Liverpool. Although, that’s what people say. Meanwhile they did not lose any of their last 10 matches (all competitions). But as I wrote here, Liverpool have a really hard time scoring this season, and if they do, they find it really difficult maintaining that lead. They did so however this Wednesday in the League cup against Bournemouth: 1-0. It was their fourth win of the season, and their fourth by a difference of only 1 goal.

Then, this match-up. It looks quite positive for the blues as the have not lost any of the last 8 meetings (all competitions) with Liverpool: 4 wins and 4 draws. They are also leading the Premier League H2H with the Reds playing at home: 13 wins , 6 draws and 4 defeats

Crystal Palace – Manchester United

The game statistics of 300,000-a-week Rooney against Manchester City last week will have made any Man Utd fan miserable. He did not create any chance for a team mate, did not register a single shot, gave no crosses,  was dispossessed 6 times and had a pass accuracy of 55%. All leading to a WhoScored rating of 6.2, the lowest of any starter in that derby.

Maybe more worrying is that United did not win any of their last 3 games (all competitions). But this game against Crystal Palace should help them recover: they have never lost a Premier League game against Palace (10 wins and 2 draws). On the other hand, Crystal Palace are performing above expectations (5 wins from 10 games, 2 more than their best season in the PL so far) and that despite having had one of the toughest fixtures so far: they have played the league numbers  1 to 3 (all at home) and 5 and 6 (away). They have lost all five games.

A positive note: Man U received only 8 goals so far. Their best tally since the 2008/09 season.

Yohan Cabaye has been involved in Palace’s last 4 goals (3 goals, 1 assist).

Swansea – Arsenal

Arsenal have won their last 4 Premier League games and are traveling to Wales now knowing they lost both games against Swansea last season. Moreover, Swansea is one of only 3 teams that hold a positive H2H against Arsenal in the Premier League (+1). The others are Liverpool (+1) and Manchester United (+9).

Arsenal’s worst H2H balances in the Premier League (minimum 4 games).

Watford – West Ham

West Ham are on a 7-game streak without losses in the Premier League, something they did not manage in the Premier League since the 2000/01 season when they made it 8 without losing. The Hammers got 20 points from their 10 opening games, which is 3 more than last season, and did not lose any of their 5 away matches (4 wins, 1 draw). Watford on the other hand have scored only 1 goal in their home matches this season (1 win, 2 draws, 2 losses).
